Steve by the WeLikeItIndie fire

A few months ago, WeLikeItIndie contacted us about doing an intimate acoustic set as one of the stops on our Spring Tour.  They would film five songs and post the footage on their blog.  Of course, we agreed.  It was something different, something we don’t get to do all the time.  As it turned out, it was one of the coolest shows we’ve ever played.  No mics, different arrangements, our beards were long.  We transposed a lot of guitar parts to piano, while some piano parts were played on guitar.  An auto-harp was used for additional melodic textures.  Garet didn’t play anything traditional.  Our percussion suitcase doubled as his kick drum.  Sean’s delayed guitar part on “Where The Sky Ends” was achieved – but only through the use of hot rod sticks playing triplets on his acoustic strings (see photos).  We picked up an old cassette clock radio at a local thrift store to use as a “sampler” for the “Me Versus Me” loop.  It was so much fun to hear our songs in this setting.  A lot of ad-lib.

After we played six songs inside the art gallery, we went outside where we recorded two more songs, “Phantom Parade” and “Me Versus Me”.  Inside the van, we had an old acoustic guitar that was essentially broken.  The neck had cracked and was unplayable.  So we decided to light it on fire and use the light of the fire to illuminate the filming.  Ten minutes, two songs and a lot of Zippo later, the guitar was toast.  We wrapped the filming and ended our night with a few drinks at Hotel Congress.  Good times.

Please tell me that’s not my old Guild :-)

“Our beards were long.” hahaha. That sounds like an amazing show though. Wish I could’ve been there.

No – it was one of David’s old acoustics. I would never burn the old Guild!
